Everyone is excited to see me and I have made lots of new friends too.

Ah Mombasa …….

It’s hot, it’s bustling, it’s noisy, exactly as I remember it, and throw in some Kenyan charm. Life is good.

I arrived safely yesterday afternoon, with all my luggage, a mere 26 hours after I left home, but who’s counting anymore.

And the icing on the cake, it cost me 300 shillings ($4US) to hitch a ride from the airport to my downtown hotel. Thank you to the Mombasa Airport Authority for introducing this service for us tourists.

Now the bad news; the ship has not yet arrived. I am told it may be here on Monday.

We shall see.

In the meanwhile, enjoy the view from my balcony

Cheers

This is an urgent request for assistance.

Dear friends and Supporters:
Re: Shipment to Orphanages in Kenya
As you all know, I travel to Kenya in two weeks to continue my work at Villa 16 Orphanage and Mwatate Home & Rescue Centre.
I had shipped 3 crates of essential supplies, including books, school supplies, clothing, shoes and other essential items ahead of my travel.
My expectation was that the Government of Kenya would allow for duty free concessions as the items were for use at an orphanage.
Unfortunately, the application for relief on the duty was not accepted.
I am therefore required to pay $2,000 US dollars to clear and transport the crates to the orphanages.
I am appealing to you for assistance. The children of the orphanages need the items that we have shipped at significant cost.
I am therefore asking you to dig deep into your reserves to help us out. I am confident that I can count on you and thank you for whatever amount you can contribute.
As per usual, all of the funds raised will be going to the cause. I pay my own expenses.
The children of Kenya and I thank you for your generosity.
Sincerely,
Floreen Forde

And they are off…….

The crates are on their way, by truck, by train and then by ship to Mombasa.

Thank you very much to EVERYONE who donated items for this mission.

The children of Villa 16 & Mwatate Home will be very surprised when I arrive with these boxes in tow.

There will be an even bigger surprise when the boxes get opened.

For making this dream possible,

Thank you to Parkwoods United Church.

Thank you to Scarborough Bluffs Rotary Club

Thank you to DMR Cargo International.

Kwaheri!!

Kenya 2013

After a 2 year hiatus,  I am going to try my hand at blogging again.

Jambo!!

I am going back to visit the children!

And I found a company to ship my supplies.

I am excited!

Dr. Kireti and I have been sorting and packing boxes for the past 2 weeks; we are almost finished.

The ship leaves on Thursday and will arrive in time for my visit.

I can’t wait to see the children’s faces when we open the boxes.

It will be Christmas in August. I will finally be able to say yes, I did bring books and lots of them too.

Thanks to the generosity of Marty Cutler, the children will have books to read and share with their friends.

More to come, need to get some rest so I can continue packing on Monday.

Kwaheri!!
